Greenhouses and sheds can be used on site (this is in line with Colchester Borough’s allotment policy).

Please note the following:

• Ensure that sheds and glasshouses are secured as firmly as possible to the ground.
• Ensure that any  damage, broken glass etc. is cleared up as soon as possible.
• Badly built or damaged structures are dangerous and can be attractive to children playing on the site, e.g. making dens.
• Be aware - greenhouses with damaged frames could collapse on someone; sheds may contain old chemicals and sharp tools; children could become trapped inside - and take steps to make them safe.
• Corrugated iron often develops lethal sharp edges. Ensure greenhouses are kept in good repair and structurally safe.
• Dispose of hazards regularly and safely.
• The Allotment Committee occasionally provides a skip so that plot holders can get rid of larger items safely.
